CSA Conference

CSA Conference

Caribbean Sailing Week (CSW) is the newly formed annual event which combines the Caribbean Sailing Association (CSA) Caribbean Dinghy Championship and the Annual Conference in one major event each Autumn.

The event combines the Annual General Meeting, Regatta Organisers Conference, Sailing Development Meeting, Measurers Meeting along side the racing in the Caribbean Dinghy Championship and clinics both on and off the water for sailors and race officials.

For 2020, the event will be a digital event held via Zoom. Members can register for the AGM and ROC by filling in the form here.

The Conference

The conference usually consists of three days; the Annual General Meeting on day one, followed by two days of discussion, presentations and strategising about regatta organisation, marketing, race management measurement and sailing development.

In previous years speakers have included Peter Holmberg, representatives from Sailors for the Sea, Tim Cross as World Sailing Caribbean regional coordinator and many of the organisers and race managers from across the region. The conference is a fantastic opportunity to discuss concerns, pitch ideas and seek support from peers, sponsors and industry stakeholders.

The CDC

In 2019 a new race format delivered three days of racing in four class events: Laser & Laser Radial, RS Feva, Optimist and a new keel boat class. Each class will  be a Caribbean championship. A Nations Trophy will then  be awarded based on criterea to be announced. In 2019 this was won by Antigua.

The requirement of a team of 6 people previously needed meant that few islands could afford to compete. The new format has been designed to open up participation across more islands in the region. Added to that to ensure more islands can take part, a round robin format will be used in classes with high participation.

Who is Eligible?

The Conference and CDC are open to members of the CSA from across the region and is attended by regatta directors, marketeers, measurers, yacht club managers, sailing programme managers, other members and professionals within the industry.

The first Annual 2019 Caribbean Sailing Week took place place in Antigua  from October 17-20, 2019.

The 2020 edition will take place on November 13-14, 2020.

Any organisations who are not members and would like to take part can review the membership opportunities. Any individuals or businesses interested in sponsorship opportunities including presenting at the conference  are welcome to get in touch on alison@caribbean-sailing.com to discuss options.
