“K3 is delighted to strengthen ties with STIR and its participating sailors,” says Lisa Keogh, general manager of K3 for North America. “Our new 2020 sponsorship agreement comes as K3 celebrates its 10 year anniversary, the latter four of which we have played an integral support role with STIR and its host St. Thomas Yacht Club. The new 2020 agreement brings the unique design and distinct value of K3 waterproof gear to STIR participants that only K3 can deliver. We look forward to yet another year of competitive racing and comradery in sponsorship of the iconic STIR event.”

The 40-Liter Team K3 Dry Bag for STIR 2020 skippers features heat welded seams with no zips, thus is impenetrable by water. In fact, a Class 6 Waterproof rating means it floats! There’s a top roll down closure system and optional shoulder carry strap. The Icon 15-Liter Sport Dry Bag is also 100 percent waterproof and right-sized to keep cash, keys, clothes and more both safe and dry. Like the Greek God its named after, the K3 20-Liter Poseidon Waterproof Dry Bag Backpack is built tough yet stylish to protect valuables on land and at sea. Finally, the K3 60-Liter Excursion Travel Duffle Backpack is a trendy sophisticated piece of gear which includes quick release ergonomic backpack straps, internal mesh zip pockets, an external mesh zip pocket and lockable zipper.

Can’t wait until March? Or, have a sailor on your holiday gift list? From now through December 31, K3 is offering an exclusive 30% discount as part of its STIR sponsorship. “We are happy to welcome K3 back as a sponsor for this year’s STIR. Their skipper’s bags are always a very popular and useful item for any boat captain to use time and time again. Their other bags also disappear quite quickly in our retail store. K3 remains a wonderful contributor to our sport of sailing,” says Bill Canfield, who co-directs STIR 2020 with Pat Bailey.

STIR, celebrating its 47th year, is a globally-recognized regatta renowned for its fantastic racing, first-class race committee and friendly can-do attitude towards its competitors.

Entries for STIR 2020 so far include the Weston, Massachusetts’ Donald Nicholson’s J/121 Apollo; Riverside, Connecticut’s Oliver Repenning’s XP33, eXhaLe; Antigua’s Pamala Baldwin’s J/122, Liquid; the UK’s Yuri Fadeev’s Beneteau First 40, Optimus Prime; and five one-design IC24s including Chicago, Illinois’s Joe Hummel on Red Dog.

“This year we are chartering an IC24, something smaller and simpler than year’s past. We own a C&C 115 with an asymmetrical spinnaker on Lake Michigan, so this is going to be a change for us. We live in Chicago, so we look forward to getting someplace warm in March and doing some sailing before the season starts here on Lake Michigan. STIR is a fun, friendly, competitive regatta in a beautiful location. It’s well run, with nice people and a yacht club right on the beach. There’s almost always wind, without big waves. Hard to beat!,” says Hummel, a member of the Chicago Corinthian Yacht Club, who will race with his wife and daughter as crew.
