Sint Maarten Heineken Regatta Art Competition

The St. Maarten Regatta Art Competition, a contest open to children between 4-18 years old is asking for the youth to get creative. Children will complete art assignments divided per school group and a professional jury will judge the art at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. First, second and third prize winners in each group will win prizes sponsored by local businesses.

Packages with the assignments are already available at all schools on the Dutch side, at both van Dorp locations and at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club and the packages can be sent digitally if desired. Assignments vary from making a sock puppet, creating a bottle fish, designing a trophy, building a boat, writing a cartoon amongst others.

Every year, organizers, teachers and children add new fun assignments to the packages, challenging the children’s creativity. ‘’This year, children are asked to make a tiny floating boat which needs to be able to race against the other seaworthy boats during the prize-giving at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club. The winner of this race wins a trip to the Butterfly Farm for his or her entire school class. Join the Regatta Art Competition and show your creativity to win great prizes!’’ declares Sacha van der Wouden, organizer of the Regatta Art Competition.

This year, prizes are sponsored by Aqua Mania, Carousel, Caribbean Cinemas, Divico, Funtopia, Intertoys, Loterie Farm, the Nature Foundation, Ocean Explorers, Prime, Random Wind, Rhino Safari, Scuba Shop, Shipwreck Shops, Trisport, Van Dorp and West Indies Sports Park.  ‘‘It is great to see how many local businesses offer prizes that really make the competition something children want to be part of. Get creative and hopefully we’ll see you at the prize giving!’’ says Sacha.

Please note the following dates:
Deadline assignments: The pieces of art must be handed in before Saturday January 28st at both Van Dorp locations or at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
Prize giving ceremony:Sunday February 12th – 3 PM sharp at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
