budgetmarineEvery year the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta by an invitation only event, The Budget Marine Match Racing Cup. This exhilarating one day race sails in the protected waters of the Simpson Bay lagoon on the one design Jeanneau  SunFast 20. Previous winner Colin Rathbun had this to say about sailing on the lagoon, “There are a couple of hidden lanes in the madness, but it’s like match racing in a mine field!”. The boats have three crew, no Spinnaker, and are used regularly for high level racing, both Match and Fleet and are particularly easy to handle.

This is a highly contested race that has had many world class sailors topping the podium such Gavin Brady and last year’s winner and current number one match racer Taylor Canfield. Taylor Canfield won last year with his team of Canadian Olympic Sailor Richard Clarke and accomplished Caribbean sailor Mark Plaxton.  And if all this excitement is not enough there is also a substantial prize with $5000 for first, $2000 for second and $1000 for third. The Sixth edition of the event will take place March 4 2014 promising to be better than ever.

The teams need to consist of three persons per team including the helmsman so if you think you have what it takes to be part of this great event please email the office at regatta@heinekenregatta.com and submit your sailing CV and qualifications for consideration.
