Carlos Aguilar Match Race Cancelled For 2014 – Plans Underway To Resume 2015
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The Virgin Islands Sailing Association (VISA) announces the cancellation of the 2014 Carlos Aguilar Match Race (CAMR). Plans are underway to resume this renowned regatta, which has welcomed the world’s top men’s and women’s match racers and has been held for the past six years in late November/early December, in 2015.
“It was a very difficult decision to cancel this year’s match race, however we all felt that a water downed version of this great event due to lack of sufficient sponsorship was not the way to go,” explains regatta director, Bill Canfield. “At the same time, this is a wonderful time for us to reach out to new sponsors who want to be involved in a world- class globally-recognized event that has been so well supported in the past and that also contributes to the local economy.”
VISA is the organization that administers all sailing activities in the US Virgin Islands. It is a Member National Authority of ISAF, which is the International Federation that governs sailing worldwide, the Pan American Sailing Federation and Central American and Caribbean Sailing Organization. In addition, VISA was a founding member of the Virgin Islands Olympic Committee, which administers all Olympic sports in the Virgin Islands. VISA stands firmly behind match racing and junior sailing and a commitment to continue the CAMR in the future.
