On Thursday 7 Jan 2016, members of the media, sponsors, organizers, race committee officials and volunteers gathered at Prickly Bay Marina to launch the Island Water World Grenada Sailing Week (GSW), which will take place from 28 Jan to 2 Feb 2016.

Chairman Marc de Caul said the GSW Board members were excited to be launching the 4th edition of this growing regatta, which would take place at 3 venues, Grenada Yacht Club, Secret Harbour Marina and Prickly Bay Marina. 4 days of racing, with courses geared to the requirements of the 6 different classes, would take place on the western and southern coast of Grenada, with a mid-regatta lay day and lots of after race entertainment each night at which all would be welcome. He thanked all the sponsors, especially the major contributors – Island Water World, Grenada Tourism Authority, Mount Gay Rum, Sea Hawk Premium Yacht Coatings, Secret Harbour Marina, The Moorings and Spice Island Marine Services for their support.

Rudy Grant, Grenada Tourism Authority CEO, said it was a privilege to provide support for this regatta which brought sailors from all over the world to Grenada, an island which had an amazingly varied product to offer visitors. He encouraged those participating to take the time to enjoy the many different aspects of the island and expressed the GTA’s commitment going forward to 2017.

Patrick Brathwaite, manager of Island Water World in Grenada, gave a short but strong statement in support of this event. He said his company and this sailing week were an “intuitive fit” and Island Water World’s commitment was definitely for the long term.

Brian Sylvester said Mount Gay supported over 80 regattas worldwide and was pleased not only with the growth of this regatta in terms participation, but also in terms of professional organisation. Mount Gay had been a sponsor of the major keelboat regatta in Grenada for 21 years (including the most recent 4 under the management of the GSW Board), demonstrating his company’s strong commitment to Grenada’s sailing community.

Canapes from Le Boucher and wine tasting from Wine & More added to the convivial atmosphere of the launch and it is now “all systems go” for the final weeks of preparation for this sailing event that draws over 40 yachts and 350 sailors and supporters from around 13 countries to enjoy Grenada’s superb sailing conditions.
