SFS, a specialist in construction insurance and reinsurance brokerage and consulting, has officially joined the exclusive club of Gold Sponsors for Les Voiles de Saint-Barth.

“We discovered the event last year. It is clearly an ideal platform to expand our notoriety throughout the Caribbean, while allowing us to meet with our partners and existing clients in Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Guyana, and share our passion for sailing aboard our sailboat, SFS II,” explains Frederic Lamotte, director of communication & marketing for SFS.

Already a sponsor of the VOR 70 SFS II, with skipper Lionel Péan, SFS has an ongoing engagement with the nautical world: “Sailing is one of the last places where you can still experience projects based on human relationships. It evokes the image of team spirit, personal commitment and prowess, as is true of all major athletic performance, and that goes hand-in-hand with our philosophy at SFS,” explains Antoine Guillot, chairman of SFS.

The organizers of Les Voiles de Saint-Barth are pleased to welcome a sponsor with such a double commitment, both for the event and sailing in general!

Second Annual Participation For Lionel Péan and His Crew

unnamed

Sponsored by SFS, the newest sponsor for Les Voiles de Saint-Barth, the crew of the VOR 70 SFS II returns for the second consecutive year next April. “Saint Barth is a unique place, and a remarkable place to sail, among friends. These elements contribute to the success of Les Voiles de Saint-Barth,” explains Lionel Péan, skipper of this high-speed boat.

Designed in 2011 by Franco-Argentinean Juan Kouyoumdjian, this 21.50-meter (70’) mono-hull was built in Newport, Rhode Island. This powerful sailboat, with a pendulum keel, a double centerboard, and two rudders, was built with composite materials, which ensure a formidable power-weight ratio, with more than 600 sq meters of sails for a weight of only 14 tons.

Last year, the crew (which chartered a similar VOR 70, Green Dragon, for the regatta) finished in 4th position in the Maxi 2 class, behind Prospector (1st), Team Brunel (2nd), and Windfall (3rd); they have higher hopes for the next editions of Les Voiles, as SFS II is faster.

“We were very quickly at the head of the race, in spite of the difficulty to find our stride on a boat less high-performance than our SFS II, which remained in France,” notes Lionel Péan. “Green Dragon was slower than SFS II but we did not allow that to frustrate us. The crew, including our guests from SFS Guyana, worked hard every minute.”

Sojana Is Back!

Lionel Péan knows Sojana well, having won the 2010 Maxi Transatlantic race aboard Peter Harrison’s ketch, which makes its return to the Les Voiles de St. Barth in 2017! That makes four years since this 35-meter (115’) maxi yacht has sailed in the warm waters around Saint Barthélemy. It will be a great show in the Maxi class to watch!
