The Brain & Spine Institute (ICM), An Exceptional Collaboration For The 5th Edition of Les Voiles

header_template_voile-uk

This year, Les Voiles de Saint Barth is striving to associate the Collectivity of Saint Barthélemy with the ICM in Paris.

This private foundation, recognized as a public benefit organization, was founded in 2005 with the goal of preventing, treating, and eventually, curing brain and spinal cord disorders. Neurological and psychiatric ailments touch more than one person out of eight around the world today, with tens of millions of cases in Europe alone. At ICM, more than 600 researchers, technicians, and engineers are working together to try and find new treatments for these diseases.

It is therefore an honor to have the ICM Foundation involved in this year’s event; its president, professor Gérard Saillant and vice-president Jean Todt will serve as patrons of the regatta. In order to support their research efforts, a gala evening will be held at the Eden Rock, in order to raise funds at an auction of luxury objects.

Focus On The Ladies In The Race

voilesfemininsThere may not be too many of them, but they do not pass unnoticed! All dressed in pink, the eight ladies that comprise the heart of the team, Les Voiles au Féminin, also stand out for their incredible energy and love of sailing. In 2012 they created a non-profit association of the same name as their team, to “promote sailing for women, no matter what social milieu they come from.”

voilesfWith their 11-meter J 109 sailboat, they have but one goal in mind: to win! All residents of St Barth, they train together once a month to prepare for the big regattas, with the help of their sponsors, Arc St. Barth, Tiru, Dauphin Telecom, and Getelec. They also participated in Les Voiles de St Tropez last October, crossed the Atlantic in the ARC (Atlantic Rally For Cruisers), and have participated in numerous regattas throughout the Caribbean.

“We all have day jobs in addition to sailing, so it is not always easy to get together to train, but once we are out on the water, we really give it our all,” explains Tassa, one of the team members. And it’s this energy and their overall positive spirit that gives this team its strength: “The world of sailing is very masculine. When you are a team of women, we not only have to prove ourselves out on the water but putting our best foot forward allows us to get more and more recognition!”

A Local Team Sponsored By The BDAF

bdaf-imgOur premium sponsor, the BDAF, has decided to sponsor a boat for the first time this year, the X 34 Maëlia from St Barth.

Eva Juraver, director of marketing and communication for the BDAF, explains: “For our fifth year as a sponsor, it is important that the BDAF clearly display its implication in the promotion of Saint-Barthélemy and reinforce its presence during the regatta. For the 2014 edition of Les Voiles, we are increasing our visibility by sponsoring a sailboat. We were charmed by Raphael Magras and his family-oriented crew, who in addition to being good sailors, often have winning results!”“We came in second last year. The support of BDAF gives us even more reason to sail hard and finish on the podium in first place,” notes Raphael Magras, who will sail in the Spinnaker class.

Testimonial…

inscriptions“Antigua Sailing Week and Les Voiles de Saint-Barth are our major objectives under the tropical sun this spring. We enjoy sailing under constant wind, and it is really a pleasure to sail here. Even if all the maneuvers seem easy, you must remain concentrated and not be distracted by the beauty of the landscapes. It is also very pleasant to sail in a competition with such a warm ambiance. Our crew will be a savvy mix of friends from Sweden and local sailors who share the secrets of sailing in this zone… ”

Rikard Roth, owner of Xar, Spinnaker Class
