Women in Sailing

Name: Alison Sly Adams
Island: Antigua and Barbuda

Q: How did you get into Sailing?

A: When I moved to Antigua 18 years ago, I started a website with my husband www.antiguanice.com. We were then asked to update the Antigua Sailing Week (ASW) website and I became involved in first the local marketing, then international marketing of ASW, and worked my way up in the organization to be president. Only two and half years ago at the age of 52, I started dinghy sailing classes at the National Sailing Academy, and have now taken on a newly created General Manager role. We have moved the Antigua Sailing Week office onto the property along with the secretariats for the Antigua and Barbuda Marine Association and the Caribbean Sailing Association, so are the home of many things sailing in Antigua. This is my third year as president of the Caribbean Sailing Association.

I love the sport, I love the industry and I love my job. I consider myself to be very lucky and look forward to encouraging more women into the sport from whatever demographic. #inclusivesailing

Pam grew up sailing with her family on Long Island Sound and sailed on the Chesapeake Bay for the 25 years she lived in that area. Pam started volunteering on the Race Committee for the BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival in 2003, and continues to be very actively involved with that event. Pam has a pan-Caribbean focus and has assisted with Race Committee work for the Grenada Sailing Festival, St. Maarten Heineken Regatta, St. Croix International Regatta and Antigua Sailing Week. Pam enjoys participating in the organisation of these events and finds it immensely gratifying to be part of making such events happen.
