Name: Michele Korteweg
Island: St. Maarten

Q: How did you get involved in Sailing?

A: I started as an intern at the Regatta in 2008 and returned to St. Maarten in 2010 to join the team as Assistant Director and worked my way up to Director in 2012. In 2017 I was offered the position of General Manager to focus more on the growth of the sailing school and racing program locally.

Having enjoyed racing with a local team for 2 seasons, I realized I’d rather stays ashore and organize racing than going out sailing. I love the thrill that comes with event management, the creativity of (destination) marketing and the human factor that’s part of regattas through the sailing community and the volunteers. As the head of the Marketing Committee for the CSA I am dedicated to find joint marketing opportunities to showcase the beautiful racing that the Caribbean offers to attract more boats and sailors to the region.
