St Lucia Yacht Club is kicking off the sailing season in style this year with its inaugural MANGO BOWL REGATTA on December 1st & 2nd, just prior to the arrival of the ARC. Dates were discussed with sailing colleagues in neighbouring islands in order to encourage maximum participation.

Excitement is building rapidly with over $38,000 EC cash sponsorship already committed and many other prizes. IGY Marinas were quick to confirm a generous Gold Sponsorship and support for future years. As we go to press the Ocean Club in Rodney Bay Marina, Nagico Insurance and Mount Gay Rum have been warmly welcomed on board as Silver Sponsors, along with Island Water World, Cap Maison, Body Holiday, Johnson’s Hardware and Food Express as Bronze.

The St Lucia Yacht Club is extremely grateful to all sponsors and others who are donating a variety of prizes to support this inaugural regatta. Four separate events are planned for Racing Yachts, Cruising Yachts, Catamarans and J24s together with Surprise Class Yachts, the latter having sought a combined event although there will be an overall winner for each of the two classes.

All races will start & finish in Rodney Bay with plenty of room for spectators. The main event of the J24/Surprise Class will comprise three sets of three, 30 minute races over the two days. There will be three longer races for each of the Racing Class monohulls, Cruising Class monohulls and Cruising Class catamarans.

There will be plenty of fantastic social activities over the weekend both at the Yacht Club and the Marina including a welcome party and the formal prize-giving.
